WAY MORE THAN THEIR SHARE

IPS, Other 98 %, U.S. Uncut sound alarm

Inter Press Service News Agency — “Executive Excess 2011: The Massive CEO Rewards for Tax Dodging… IPS Report: ‘Corporations don’t dodge taxes, the people who run corporations do.

“These CEOs are reaping awesomely lavish rewards for the tax dodging they have their corporations do.

“Corporate tax dodging has gone so out of control that 25 major U.S. corporations last year paid their chief executives more than they paid Uncle Sam in federal income taxes.” http://www.ips-dc.org/campaigns/tax-dodging-ceos/index.php

The Other 98 percent — “Our New Infographic: Exec Excess — The Other 98 percent teams with the Institute for Policy Studies and U.S. Uncut to drive home a basic point:
‘when tax shelters allow CEOs to take home more in pay than their entire …  company pays in taxes, something is very wrong.’” The Other 98 percent, http://other98.com/our-new-infographic-exec-excess/

U.S. Uncut — “CEOs Reaping the Rewards of Tax Cheating,” posted on Wednesday August 31, 2011, “Some 25 major U.S. corporations are paying their CEO’s more money then they give to Uncle Sam — this according to a new report by the Institute for Policy Studies that is making the rounds in the news cycle.…   According to the study, while the economy lingers, corporate outlays for CEO compensation have rebounded to nearly pre-recessionary levels.

“The ratio between the average worker salary and CEO has risen from 263-1 in 2009 — to 325-1 just last year.”

Today on Democracy Now! [guest Chuck Collins, senior scholar at the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), director of IPS’s program on Inequality and the Common Good, co-author of new study ‘Executive Excess 2011: The Massive CEO Rewards for Tax Dodging,’ co-founder of United for a Fair Economy] — “As Economy Lags, New Study Reveals 25 of the nation’s largest corporations paid more money to their CEOs last year than they did to the federal government in income taxes.

“Often using overseas tax havens, many of the corporations managed to make billions in profits but paid little to nothing in federal taxes. In many cases the companies received large tax rebates.

“The list includes some of the country’s best known companies:

Ford, Coca-Cola, Verizon, General Electric, and eBay … ‘these companies … use a variety of tax loopholes, corporate loopholes to gain down their taxes … champions in the tax gymnastics department.’” September 1, 2011, http://www.democracynow.org/2011/9/1/as_economy_lags_new_study_reveals
