Uprooting Entrenchment, a shift citizens crave
Excerpt, editing by Carolyn Bennett
As a nation, “we have been voting against our own interests
year after year. …
“Most Americans — whether they consider themselves on the
right, left, center, whatever — understand that their interests have been
undermined by these folks in Washington, both in the White House and in Congress,
who are acting as if they’re on retainer with their largest campaign
contributors rather than doing what's in the public's interest.…
“(Americans) want to see an alternative party. They recognize that
these two militarist corporatist parties have brought us to this disastrous
place where we are today.”
Rocky Anderson of Utah was giving a radio interview.
Anderson has organized the Justice Party and has filed paperwork for a presidential
exploratory committee. Now the party enters the process of getting on election
ballots nationwide where criteria vary from state to state.

Rocky (Ross C.) Anderson has championed national and international
causes including climate protection, immigration reform, restorative criminal
justice, GLBT rights, and an end to the ‘war on drugs’; and before and after
the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, Anderson was a leading
opponent of the
invasion and occupation of Iraq and related human rights abuses.
Anderson was the only mayor of a major U.S. city (Salt Lake City, Utah)
to advocate impeachment of President George W. Bush, which he did in many
venues throughout the United States.
Executive Director of High Road for Human Rights, Rocky Anderson was a
two-term mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah (2000-2008) and before that he practiced
law in Salt Lake City and during a 21-year law practice was listed in Best Lawyers
in America (rated A-V, highest rating) by Martindale-Hubbell and was chair of
the Utah State Bar Litigation Section. Anderson was also Editor-in-Chief of and
a contributor to Voir Dire legal journal.

In forming the Justice Party, Anderson said in the Wednesday
interview on KSL Radio’s Doug Wright Show, “
The people are the ones who always
bring about major change in this country and we need to provide that power to
people throughout the country.”
Anderson reportedly sees the Justice Party as “a grassroots
movement that over the long term will bring about the shift in American
politics that citizens crave.”

Waking those dissatisfied with status quo
KSL reports Anderson saying he intends his campaign “to attract
disenchanted members of both parties and independents.”

I just hope we can
be involved in the debate because if we don’t we’re just going to be hearing a
bunch of sound bites from people who, between their two parties, have colluded in
so many ways in serving the interests of their campaign contributors, the
wealthy and the powerful.…
The middle class has
been decimated … [In the past decade], outrageous, expensive wars have wasted
lives and tax dollars.… The government has driven up the deficit while cutting
taxes for those most capable of paying taxes. … Leaders have failed to provide
affordable, essential health care for all Americans.
[But if we] put together
passion and organization, we can overcome any of these candidates who have all
the money but really lack ideas.” [dromboy@ksl.com]
