Due process
Equal/non-discriminatory
application of the law
Enforcement of
basic rights globally
Fair trials
using evidence of internationally required standards
Badly drafted
legislation which criminalizes dissent and prosecutes dissenting members of the
Muslim community – targeting the process which makes them ‘detainees’
Cageprisoners uses the language
and understanding of international human rights and humanitarian law in order
promote the rights of detainees around the world.
At the Cageprisoners site, I ran
across this bit of insight with which I could not agree more. It might be eye
opening to some so I’ve excerpted with minor editing for TIN. Read the full

President Barack Obama, soon
after assuming office, “authorized the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to
plan and execute the murder of terrorists and other enemies — regardless of
whether they are U.S. citizens.” Osama bin Laden, Anwar al-Awlaki, and Muammar Qaddafi
are among the prominent murder victims but numerous others “have been purposely
targeted and killed in Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Iran, and Pakistan.
“The legitimization of extra-judicial killing is a disturbing development in
international law as other nations are certain to follow suit.
“In pursuit of pre-meditated murders, the collateral damage (the killing of the obviously innocent) has been extensive.” Though a false notion [and though the CIA currently holds the monopoly over drone kills], “the claim that such murders can be executed with electronic precision lends incentive to other nations to develop drones to perpetrate their own surgical assassinations.”
“Audacity
of Murder” — major policy shift institutionalizing murder
“Since the 9/11 attacks, the policy logistics of murder have been dramatically transformed.

“The ‘dark side’ freely informs foreign policy.
“The audacity of murder has gained depth and momentum. The President does not think twice about the moral implications of boasting a drone kill.…”
