Relentless prejudice, paranoia, pretexts west wields against independent IRI

IRI President-elect
Hassan Rohani
Politician, academic, diplomat: Iran’s incoming President Hassan Rohani
Editing, re-reporting by
Carolyn Bennett

Before winning the presidential election, Dr. Hassan Rohani spoke to the nuclear issue that is continuously raised by Western officials. He said that during his tenure (October 2003-August 2005) as Iran’s top nuclear negotiator, his country’s policy ─ under the supervision of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei ─ “was to repel threats and ‘to convert them to opportunities’ in order to disprove Western allegations that Iran is pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program; and to foil Washington’s plots against the Islamic Republic.”

He said that in November 2004 “the Board of Governors [of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the IAEA] unanimously confirmed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear energy program. … We proved the peaceful nature of our nuclear energy program.”

However, Rohani said, the United States “wanted to say that Iran is after a [nuclear] bomb (and) we wanted to prove that the U.S. was lying.

Iran was not pursuing a bomb nor is it today or will it be tomorrow ─ because the Leader has said it is a grave sin.

Pretext for relentless hostility

The Iranian Foreign Ministry late last year issued a statement saying, “Unilateral European and U.S. sanctions against Iran are irrational, illegal and inhumane, and are against the Iranian nation.” Speaking for the Foreign Ministry, Ramin Mehmanparast charged that the nuclear issue is being used by the West “as a pretext to apply pressure on Tehran for ‘insisting on its own independence.’ The “sanctions

‘…are adopted under the pretext of Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities... but even if our nuclear issue is resolved, these countries will certainly use other excuses to put pressure on us.’

President-elect

Hassan Rouhani (var. in press reports: “Rohani,” b. November 12, 1948): Iranian politician, lawyer, academic, diplomat; current president-elect of Iran (the Islamic Republic of Iran).

Dr. Rohani has been a member of the Assembly of Experts (1999 - ), member of the Expediency Council (1991- ), member of the Supreme National Security Council (1989- ), and head of the Center for Strategic Research (1992 -). He has been deputy speaker of the 4th and 5th terms of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) and secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (1989-2005). In the latter capacity, he headed Iran’s former nuclear negotiating team and was the country’s top negotiator with the EU three (UK, France, and Germany) – on Iran’s nuclear program.

On June 14, Hassan Rohani won Iran’s presidential election with an outright victory. He received 18,613,329 votes: 50.7 percent of the total 36,704,156 ballots cast. The Islamic Republic of Iran’s voter turnout in its 11th presidential election, according to the country’s Interior Ministry, was 72.7 percent. The president-elect’s inauguration occurs in August.

F
ollowing the election of Dr. Rohani, Conflicts Forum Weekly commented that even before ballots were cast, “it was clear” that whoever won the Islamic Republic of Iran’s election, the “Iranian foreign policy was set to change and to become more open to improved international relations globally ─ though not necessarily centered on an improvement with the West” but more likely Iran’s reinforced turn eastward.

“…The reality of this election as a genuine expression of Iranian political orientation will be accepted as such by most of the world (but in the United States) it is already being held to demonstrate that sanctions have worked their effect on a distressed Iranian people and that the United States may now expect to reap concessions from the newly-elected president without any requirement for western reciprocity.”

This is a misreading of Iranian mood, the opinion concludes; “and if such a view becomes embedded in western thinking, the loss will be “a strategic opportunity … to enter a new relationship with Iran.”
Head of Iran's Expediency Council
Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani (l.)
Iranian president elect
Hassan Rohani (r.)

June 22, 2013
A
yatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Head of Iran’s Expediency Council, on Saturday told the press that president-elect Hassan Rohani’s “policy of moderation and wisdom and the use of collective wisdom, which is the slogan of Dr Rohani’s administration, can safeguard and strengthen the country’s national solidarity and comprehensive unity, and it can also help solve numerous domestic problems, in particular economic ones; and create constructive interaction with world countries on international issues.”

Turning eastward away from
Relentless prejudice, paranoia, pretexts, hostility

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this past week that “Moscow welcomes Iranian President-elect Hassan Rohani’s willingness to adopt a creative and active approach to settle the Western nuclear standoff with Tehran.”

Two of the veto-wielding powers on the United Nations Security Council, China and Russia, have sustained their support for Iran’s nuclear energy program and their opposition to sanctions against Tehran.

The U.S., the Israeli regime and some of their allies falsely claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with Washington and the European Union using the unfounded claim as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions on Iran.

Tehran strongly rejects the allegation over its nuclear energy activities, maintaining that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

China and Russia, as two veto-wielding powers at the UN Security Council, have repeatedly expressed their support for Iran’s nuclear energy program, voicing opposition to the sanctions against Tehran.

World Bank like global war-making “humanitarians”

Create poverty claiming to eliminate it

Kill women and children while claiming to liberate them from those "other" barbarians
From whistleblower’s tale of high crimes unchecked, unprosecuted
Edited excerpts by Carolyn Bennett

In the character of Dominique Strauss-Kahn-IMF ilk

The Kahn was a Nicolas Sarkozy-man set up as managing director of the International Monetary Fund who had time in his job to assault a hotel worker. DSK was never prosecuted for his crimes but in disgrace, he resigned amidst mounting sexual assault charges in the United States and France.

As IMF so goes the World Bank: power abused absolutely
Whistle blower rises amidst high crimes

Former WB Senior Counsel Karen Hudes does some research on the World Bank and finds that

…there are 43,000 Trans-National Corporations that control nearly everything and

…these corporations are merged together into Conglomerate: a Super Entity.

…this Super Entity controls 40 percent of the Net Worth of Publically Traded Corporations and 60 percent of the Net Earnings on the Capital Markets through their Interlocking Directorships.

H
udes appeared this week on RT’s “Breaking the Set” program. As whistleblower, she has given several interviews recently with audio and video programs. She charges the WORLD BANK with CORRUPTION TOP TO BOTTOM.

Leading into his interview with Yale-graduated lawyer Karen Hudes, Jason Liosatos says she “was arrested and fired after exposing and whistle blowing the terrible corruption at the highest levels in The World Bank, massive corruption that threatens to crash the whole financial system and bring humanity to its knees.” In the interview they cover

…the Governments and refusal to give Germany its gold, the IMF, Dominique Strauss-Khan, the arrogance and thuggery and some of the shocking activities that go on in the higher echelons of the corrupted casino-like banking system ─

…mostly unnoticed by the trusting populace, unpunished by the laws, and ignored by mainstream media who are government and corporate mouthpieces

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the U.S. government (in a constant pattern of killing the messenger) are targeting Karen Hudes, Liosatos said, but “her spotlight of truth and justice continues to expose the disease and crookedness within a system that deems itself immune even to their own laws”; a system in which people seem “to operate without ethics, empathy or morals.  When truth is enemy to a system, the system is inherently corrupt.”

W
ith Jim Fetzer, Karen Hudes wrote “The World Bank: Rejecting ‘The Rule of Law’” published this year in March at Veterans Today

“The proverb (is): ‘What you don’t know can’t hurt you” (in the 1576 original: ‘So long as I know it not, it hurteth mee not’)

“But the opposite is true:  Unpleasant hidden truths do the most harm.  The best way to fight corruption is to expose it.

“Think of the World Bank as ENRON.” … [Karen Hudes writes]

During the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings last October, with the encouragement of Karen Hudes, the Development Committee informed World Bank President Jim Yong Kim of the need for ‘a more open, transparent and accountable World Bank Group.’ Reasons motivating the request were disturbing developments:
  • The World Bank has disregarded the Joint Economic Committee’s 2005 inquiry into the World Bank’s “corporate governance irregularities” and “accounting problems”;

  • The World Bank has failed to follow the Joint Economic Committee’s advice that professional financial and accounting employees be given independent access to the World Bank’s Board and its Audit Committee;

  • The World Bank has failed to protect [Karen] Hudes against retaliation for challenges of illegality or other misconduct through external arbitration pursuant to the 2005 Lugar-Leahy amendment, which could threaten its mission;

  • The World Bank has stonewalled Senator Lugar’s and Congressman Van Hollen’s four requests for the advice of the executive search firm following Hudes’ disclosure of internal control lapses;

  • The World Bank has refused to comply with the Government Accountability Office inquiry into corruption requested by Senators Lugar, Leahy and Bayh for more than three years;

  • Congress has reiterated its request for the GAO inquiry during hearings on the World Bank capital increase, with which it has yet to comply;  and,

World Bank President
Jim Yong Kim
  • Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner misrepresented progress on World Bank reform in his 11/21/12 report to the Appropriations Committees pursuant to § 7082 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012.

However into 2013 the Obama-appointed World Bank President Kim

…has refused to tackle the corruption and has had Hudes locked out of the World Bank’s headquarters.

On March 19, 2013, (Karen Hudes) reported to the World Bank, informing Allied Barton’s security personnel that (she) was duly reinstated by the shareholders of the World Bank.  Allied Barton illegally denied (her) a
security badge.

In violation of federal, state, and international securities laws, the World Bank has attempted to intimidate the World Bank’s Board members

A
team of whistleblowers disclosed this corruption and lawlessness to state governors, attorneys general, and chief justices of state supreme courts.

U.S. Congressional Republicans and Democrats have tried to expose the corruption to the American public by calling for an inquiry by the Government Accountability Office.  The UK and EU Parliaments have also published testimony and held hearings on the corruption. State authorities together with NATO and other allies are attempting to prevent the corruption from lowering the U.S. credit rating and causing a currency war between nations.

If all the money that is stolen and by other means poured into the pockets of a few mostly men in corporate religion and state and media and business, a few who command the bombs, control the money, and hold inordinate power and influence; if all this money were left in the pockets, returned to those who labor ─ there would be no poverty in the world. It would end today.

War and corruption, either or, are the creators of want. Without them, there would be plenty for all.

“The poor” is a notion, a phenomenon manufactured by those who with the help of mass media, distort reality and take more than their share of everything ─ all the while claiming humanitarianism. Well, if what these moguls have done is humanitarian, they are speaking in tongues alien to the rest of us; and we the world’s majorities should want no part of it.

Overwhelming needs, unbearable anguish ─ Refugee Day misery made in USA

“Humanitarian” wars maintain misery

Afghanistan is the world’s “top ‘producer’ of refugees and has been for the past 32 years. One in every four refugees worldwide is Afghan; 95 percent of these are located in Pakistan or Iran.

The world’s second largest refugee-producing nation during 2012 is Somalia, land of another protracted conflict. The third largest refugees (746,700 people) are Iraqis; the fourth largest refugees are Syrians (471,400 people).

M
ore than 45 million people, to the extent that records are kept or registrations filed, are refugees and internally displaced people. This figure, the United Nations says, is “the highest level in nearly 20 years.

Chaos of war, occupation

“Every four seconds” during last year, alone, an individual “was forced to abandon” his or her home. “At the end of 2012,” says this week’s release of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) Global Trends report, “more than 45.2 million people were in situations of displacement.” The figure in 2011 was “42.5 million.”

The spike in refugees, internal and external displacements, nearly half of all refuges below the age of 18, is attributed to the Syrian conflict.

World Refugee Day

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in what might be considered understatement, said the situation, even if only glimpsed, is an “enormous human tragedy,” conflict-caused misery that is tearing apart the lives of thousands of families: people separated by the “chaos of war,” millions forced to leave loved ones.

C
ompounding the misery suffered by individual people and families are whole countries and regions deeply affected, now and into the future. Countries taking in refugees and other displaced people suffer significant economic, social and political consequences. And developing countries are taking the brunt: they have taken in 81 percent of the world’s refugees; and more than half of the world’s refugees have fled five war-torn countries: Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Syria and Sudan.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres pointed to an estimated 1.6 million Syrians who have been displaced since the crisis started over two years ago, March 2011.

“The needs of the people,” Guterres said, “are overwhelming [and] their anguish is unbearable.” An entire nation with no clear political resolution in sight is left to self-destruct as it empties of its people and civil war slides into regional conflict.

H
ardly a town or a city in Jordan has not been overwhelmed by people escaping Syria, says the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Much the same is happening in “Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt.”

Since March of 2011, the conflict and foreign interference in Syrian Arab Republic have led to the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians.

By June of 2012

More than 78,000 people were estimated to have fled into neighboring Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq, putting increasing strain on the governments and local communities.

Jordan: some 21,400 Syrians had registered with UNHCR as of June 2012.

Lebanon: many refugees are in a precarious situation, with little or no financial resources.  Some 27,500 refugee Syrians are at various states of registration with UNHCR. In the port city of Tripoli on the Mediterranean in northwestern Lebanon and in Bekaa in central Lebanon are thousands of refugees awaiting registration.

Turkey: 24,300 estimated refugee Syrians

Iraq: 4,400 estimated and growing numbers of refugee Syrians

Syrian government: assisting 110,000 refugees.
Refugees
North Africa

By September 2012:

1.5 - 2.5 million Syrians had fled their homes for safer areas of the country and the UNHCR, even then, was facing “security constraints” causing its staff to “adjust and curtail some activities.”

Refuges

,
, the homeless and uprooted, the displaced internally and externally, the stateless, destabilized and traumatized, are forced migrants, wanderers ─ phenomena resulting directly from wars, relentless foreign cruelty perpetrated against peoples and nations, institutions and infrastructures of Asia and Africa. This is a crying shame the causes of which must be stopped, not the effect commemorated or given photo ops for NGOs, politicians or movie stars.
